In those days the M1 was the only real Motorway and there was only a fraction of the traffic we all experience today. Mel recalls reading an article when he was about to learn to drive and it said “When Spring comes along a young man`s fancy turns to thoughts of…………. Sports Cars.” but then came the advert he couldn`t resist a local Austin Healey 3000, the car he always dreamed of. That was a quarter of a century ago. In the seventies old sports cars were still run by enthusiasts usually on a shoestring and if a Healey was at the scrapyard it was good news, how things have changed. To keep the car running everyone “wheeled and dealed” with parts and with some of them it turned into a business. Mel Knight is one such person, firstly as a sole trader and then in 1988 he formed Weiler Knight UK Ltd linking with Weilers Nostalgia Motors of the USA.
